The goal of Children’s ministry is to impact children with the
Gospel of Jesus Christ. With the aid of the Holy Spirit, we seek to
‘train a child’ as commanded to us through the Scriptures. Our goal
is to provide an environment where a child discovers who God
originally intends them to be.
"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he
will not turn from it" Proverbs 22:6
We look to impact those children who are a part of our church
family, as well as other children not yet a part of God’s kingdom.
As children’s/youth workers, we understand and respect that parents
are the primary teachers.
Godly Models
We know that children learn by what they observe. Recognizing the
responsibility we have been given as adults to mentor these
children, we know that you cannot give away what you do not have.
Therefore, we seek to develop authentic and enthusiastic followers
of Christ by being one.
Relationships
We know that children learn from those they feel safe with, cared
for and loved by. We acknowledge the privilege given to us to enter
into a relationship with a young person, outside of their own
family, and the opportunity to love them as Jesus does.
Worship
We know that children learn from culture current music. This means
that we need to provide a means to which children can worship in a
familiar expression that is culturally relevant to them.
The Word of God
We know that the Word is God inspired and central to all life. Our
children need to grow in that desire to discover God’s Word and find
for themselves the promises He has for each of them as He spoke
them.
The Word is taught in an age appropriate way by using teaching
techniques creatively through humor, dance, visuals and stories.
Jesus was the great model of the way he taught using parables.
As teachers, we know that children learn best when we are
listening to them. This allows us to be open to those teachable
moments.
Works of Jesus: Ministry
We know that God intended for children of all ages to "do the
stuff". All Christians, children included, are called to serve. We
believe that children are capable of ministering to each other and
adults. Children are more than qualified to feed the poor, pray for
the sick and move in all spiritual gifts.
We believe that children are capable of moving in all the
spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit. We know that we need to
encourage and build that desire for each child as well as model for
them the character and role of the Holy Spirit. We need to provide
ministry opportunity in an age appropriate manner and at the same
time acknowledge that age is not a limitation. (God used Jeremiah,
Mary and Timothy when they were young teenagers)
Outreach to other children
While we face the challenge of mentoring and discipling our own
children, the need to gather, receive and welcome other children
exists. Our goal is to find that balance and fulfill the call to all
children that God places before us.
